On May 4, 2005 the CIA.IS – Center for Icelandic Art opened its doors for the public. The institution at Hafnarstraeti 16, 101 Reykjavík – in cooperation with CIA.IS and SÍM – is the first location in Iceland, where the visitor can gather all relevant and up-to-date information on Icelandic artists and art institutions.
Visitors can use the library or get basic information on current exhibitions. A selective videoarchive provides additional insight into the wide spectrum of the Icelandic art scene. In a four-monthly altering presentation 11 artists who work in all different kind of media are introduced in this DVD-archive. The first presented artists are:
Erling Ţ.V. Klingenberg (b.1970), Finnbogi Pétursson (b.1959), Finnur Arnar Arnarson (b. 1965), Hannes Lárusson (1955), Helgi Ţorgils Friđjónsson (b. 1953) and Kristinn Guđbrandur Hardarson (b. 1955), Hulda Hákon (b.1956), The Icelandic Love Corporation (Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir [b. 1973], Jóní Jónsdóttir [b. 1972] and Eirún Sigurđardóttir [b. 1971]), Kristín Helga Káradóttir (b. 1968), Magnus Arnason (b. 1973), Markmiđ (Helgi Hjaltalín Eyjólfsson [b. 1968] and Pétur Örn Friđriksson [b. 1967], Rúrí (b.1951).

In addition to that the CIA.IS introduces foreign guest institutions to the local scene, for this first term it is lothringer13/spiegel. It is one part of three institutions of the cultural center lothringer13.

In addition to that, we regularly invite foreign institutions to introduce themselves and their work on our FLAT.
